The Families Group is a nurturing space dedicated to supporting families navigating CHD. Whether you're seeking information, comfort, or community, we’re here with you every step of the way.
Our Families Group is for EVERYONE! This is one big group that has no limits, where you'll have the ability to connect with others who are in the same or different stage of the process as you. We realize that every stage of CHD is different & we want to cater to your needs, which is why we've created deeper channels within the group.
These channels are designed for specific conversations allowing a deeper bond with those who are going through the same things you are.
Little Hearts (0-5 years):
Connect with other families of young children. Share early-stage experiences, navigate heavy struggles together, & celebrate developmental milestones and triumphs along the way.
Growing Hearts (6-12 years):
Talk with other families about education, school, activities, & making friends. Share tips for explaining heart conditions to teachers & classmates, & support each other through it all. Help your heart warrior start learning how to speak up for their health & get ready to join the CHD Connects Hearts Teen Private Group at age 12 to connect with others just like them.
Teen Hearts (13-17 years):
Talk about the unique challenges of raising a teen with CHD. Share ideas on helping your teen become more independent, speak up for their health, & take care of their emotions. Connect with other parents who understand the ups & downs of raising teens, along with the extra stress of CHD—like doctor visits, worrying about their future, & all the 'what ifs.' Encourage your teen to keep building self-advocacy skills & join the CHD Connects Hearts Teen Private Group to meet others just like them.
Adult Hearts (18+ years):
For parents of adult children with CHD, talk about concerns, fears, and advice for staying involved in their long-term care or supporting their desire for independence. Share ways to handle the changing relationship with your adult child and cope with empty nest feelings, which may feel even stronger because of the medical challenges you’ve faced together. Encourage your adult child to join CHD Connects Hearts Adults Group to continue building connections and further their journey of advocacy, awareness, health, & community change.

Norwood Procedure:
Typically the first of three surgeries for hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), performed shortly after birth. It reconstructs the aorta & right ventricle to improve blood flow to the body. Connect with families as you prepare for or recover from this critical initial surgery.
Glenn Procedure:
The second surgery, generally performed around 4-6 months of age, connects the superior vena cava to the pulmonary artery, allowing blood to flow directly to the lungs. Share insights on how this procedure alleviates strain on the heart and promotes better oxygenation.
Fontan Procedure:
The final surgery, usually carried out between 18 months and 4 years, connects the inferior vena cava to the pulmonary artery, completing the rerouting process. Discuss long-term management, recovery experiences, & how this procedure supports a more stable circulation system.
And many others... (if there is something you wish to be added, just reach out to our support!)
We will have Workshops & Live Discussions for Full Connect Members. Basic Connect members with have invitations via email for some of these!
